The Chance I am Taking to Further My Career

posted on 10 January 2012

Two years ago, Sr. Zen called me and invited me to her office. I was nervous because it is not everyday that the president calls for her employees. I went anyway, thinking that she had important things to discuss regarding the department. At that time, my immediate boss was not around because she was attending a seminar out of town so I figured that she just needed to convey a message to the others in the department through me. But to my surprise, it was not only an ordinary meeting. I was offered a supervisory position. My first reaction was to resist it. I told her I did not want it because I felt that I was not yet ready for it. She listened to me as I enumerated the reasons why I should not be given such responsibility. But Sr. Zen insisted. She told me that with the right leadership coaching, I will make a good leader one day. The meeting didn't end until I accepted the challenge. Sr. Zen was very happy when I did and once again, she promised that she'll be around anytime I'll need her.

Professional sports personnel practising continuously is not an obsession but a need

Sports are important because once one gets involved in them, they get to be very fit in the process. There are those who indulge in sports for leisure and there are those who take sports as a career path. Athletes are very wealthy people and this is because all their efforts get properly taken care of. Unlike people who indulge in sports as a way of passing time, professional athletes have to be very committed to their physical activities. They do not get to quit in the middle like how an ordinary person will stop going to the gym when they get bored or preoccupied. Several sports psychologists have explained the need of professional athletes to constantly exercise. It is a healthy habit for them because they do not get physical issues that come due to lack of being fit all the time. Even if they are off season, they perfect their passion is sports. Perfection comes when one keeps on doing the one thing that needs to be flawless. Whenever they cease to take sports seriously then they start performing horribly.

Everyone's a Photographer in This Digital Age

posted on 29 September 2011

I’ve been taking photos for decades. I honed my photography skills on Kodak Brownie cameras and then Instamatics. I graduated to 35mm and learned how to process and print my own film. I took hundreds of artistic and realistic photographs over my lifetime and I continue to do so, even though my camera is now digital and my darkroom is my computer. I consider myself a photographer and a good one, but it totally irks me to see inexperienced people claim their spot in the photography realm by using the point-and-shoot capabilities on their cell phones. I think it’s great that cell phones and other portable devices have the ability to capture images, but their simplicity and lack of adjustments make for bad photographs. And bad photographs are now tolerated and accepted by society. Example: my friend recently shunned the idea of hiring a professional portrait photographer in Berkshire, and thought he could do it himself. What's worse is he thinks his photos are great, yet I can spot so many mistakes he is completely blind to. Dark and fuzzy photos are now the norm in newspapers and magazines, even though it does not take much extra effort to hold the camera still for sharp photos. Taking some time to think about the lighting conditions can go a long way in alleviating dark and unrecognizable photos. It really doesn’t matter how convenient cell phone cameras become, I will always be a fan of the stand-along camera. Phones should be used for talking, not taking pictures!

Making sport psychology appreciated in this country.

Sports psychologists have a very tough time when introducing themselves especially to the children. This occupation is one of the newest ones in this country and therefore not many people will be aware of such an activity. Whenever one wants to introduce themselves, especially when they are targeting a certain group, its always good to start by explaining what is sports psychology and its importance in the group you are targeting. This will prevent the many doubts the trainees may be having in the process of working with you. Once they realize that sports psychology will actually benefit them, they will be so eager to work with you. Its not just our children who are not aware of our existence in this country. Even the youths especially those who have taken sports as their occupations. They need to know of these services that will enable them perform better and even earn them future promotions. It may take long to gain appreciation countrywide but the length of time will depend on the efforts we will make to make this occupation known to many.
