My favorite piece of jewelry is a Hopi silver pendant given to me by my mother for my 18th birthday. At the time we were living in the Southwest and visiting the Grand Canyon. I've always been into fashion accessories, and have a huge collection of evening bags and a big jewelry box.
While passing through Flagstaff we stopped at the local museum. As luck would have it, they were having their annual Hopi Festival that weekend. We purchased the pendant from an elderly gentleman who had been making silver jewelry for over 50 years. The Hopi comprise an Indian tribe that lives in northern Arizona. They are famous for their silver inlay jewelry. My particular pendant has an image of a corn stalk. Corn is sacred to the Hopi. Since then I have acquired several more piecesthe last one by buying from the jeweler himself while visiting the Hopi Mesas. I’m now thinking of getting my husband a Hopi silver bola tie. He says bola ties are the next big thing!
