My Fishing Season Is About to Kick Off Again

posted on 19 February 2012

The weather's getting better, the evening's getting lighter, so it's time to get my Aigle gilets and other outdoor clothing, pack up my fishing kit and rods, and go fishing! For me, fishing is an end in itself, never mind a means to an end. Many times I don't catch anything, but I love the atmosphere of being by the lake - the sound of the birds, the sound of silence too. I bring a book and some sandwiches and I can feel all the stress evaporate from me through the hours I am there. When I get back home, I actually feel invigorated from the lack of stimulus during the fishing - almost like sensory deprivation. I know that may sound odd, but I have a hectic life and I'm tired of being on the treadmill and I crave quieter times when I get the chance - and fishing gives me that chance.

On the Elegance of Leather Bracelets

posted on 8 January 2012

I stumbled upon a leather bracelet many years ago. At first, I didn't pay much attention, but later, I bought it anyway because my cousin persuaded me. After returning to home, I put it in my drawer. However, after many years, I found it and I finally "got it" and saw the beauty of it. Since then, I wear that bracelet everywhere I go. It looks really elegant and goes so well with my other fashion accessories like my yellow scarf, hat, rings, and sneakers. With simple rectangle shape, and not too bulky, yet noticeable. I don't like all those chrome type, and metal bracelets, that looks really gross. I'd always prefer to buy leather bracelets from this point on - they're light, don't make "jingly" noises like metal ones, and I love the subtle look they give off. It just goes to show how one's fashion preferences can change through the years.

Uggs: They‘re Sure Not for Mugs!

posted on 10 December 2011

This seasons Ugg boots are much the same as last season’s but I, for one, am not disappointed. Ugg boots have now reached that much sought after status of classic item amongst consumers after over three years on the market. The Ugg, a comfy design, warm and cosy boot made form linen is very popular in the colder countries and often seen on the catwalk and at premier fashion events, TV events and press events. Many a celebrity and stylist, actor and singer and even a politician or two have been photographed sporting the popular brand and this winter the trend is set to continue. Ugg have brought out several new designs, a three-quarter length boot in new season colours and are offering some excellent discounts and offers. The boots are warm, cosy and comfortable. They go with nearly every outfit choice, looking especially retro with chunky knit tights, bangles and bracelets, and floral print dresses this winter, and best of all, they are the height of style. Last year’s Autumn Ugg boots teemed well with black, skinny fit jeans and retro lace tops and they are set to be bang on trend this season, releasing some new styles and knits for winter this year.

Lampwork Beads and My Jewellery Skills Help Me Make My Gifts

posted on 24 November 2011

It's the annual problem for all of us - what to gifts to buy everyone this Christmas? For me, it's the same problem, but I have somewhat ameliorated the trouble by making my own gifts for my female friends. I make jewellery, you see, and my speciality is lampwork beads jewellery. I make them all unique jewellery items that they know they're the only person in the world to own! As to my male friends, I tend to buy them tickets for concerts / events. I know they're all into doing stuff, so they wouldn't appreciate a new jumper or pair of socks. I think in general you should plan ahead - don't do last minute shopping because you'll need to really spend time thinking about what to buy. Without that time, you'll buy the usual gifts that people pretend to like, but never ever use! I've seen that happen so many times.

I Wish I Had the Style to Wear Boutique Fashion

posted on 20 November 2011

My favourite fashion items are probably my t-shirts and jeans. That’s just the way I am I am not a dressy kind of person like my sister who's into her Forever Unique dresses and whatnot - they look really good, but I just feel I'm lacking in confidence to wear such stylish clothing. I usually just get silver jeans because they are really comfy, although they can get very expensive at times. I also like my jeans from Warehouse One for the same reasons but they can be a bit dear so I tend to buy those in the sales. I love my shirts too - I love bright and colourful shirts especially when they are see-through because then you can put a dark top underneath and it makes it look better. The only types of shirts I like tight are tank tops and the others baggy. I like the casual look, but I appreciate my sister's tastes too - I just don't have the confidence and style to wear that kind of boutique fashion.

George Michael as a Men's Fancy Dress Costume

posted on 12 October 2011

I'm a straight man. I'm married with teenage children. I love George Michael. Most people think it's impossible for all these things to be true but they are. I love dressing up as George Michael for a fancy dress party, specifically Faith-era George when he took the leather and denim trend of the 80s to its limits. In fact. good 'ol George makes for one of the best mens fancy dress costumes you could ever feast your eyes on. George was and remains the greatest songwriter of his generation and one of a handful of successors to John Lennon's school of witty, wise and wonderful musical talents. George emerged from the cocoon of boy-band coziness with Wham! where he and his childhood buddy were one of the first Western artists to perform in China. George took control of his destiny and created the template that others have tried to copy with varying degrees of success. Justin Timberlake probably doesn't even realize how much his second album owed to George's overt displays of sexuality in songs like "I Want your Sex". Britney, on the other hand, over-egged the pudding somewhat in her desire to appear grown up and came off looking tired and uninspired. Dressing up as George Michael is a surprisingly recognizable and achievable look with some gel, some fake stubble and a good denim jacket. When I strike a pose, looking saucily over my shoulder, everyone knows who I am and enjoys the look.

Sass and Bide Jeans are Absolutely Fantastic

posted on 10 October 2011

I have a favorite fashion item. It happens to be my sass & bide jeans. I consider them to be a highly fashionable item, and the go with all kinds of shoes too - from ladies court shoes to trainers. They are essential as I wear them every day. I have at least 10 pairs however they are all very different. I prefer the darker washes for the winter time. Skinny leg jeans are excellent. They look great with anything. They are great for casual or formal wear. When I go out in the evening I often wear a smart singlet or tight t-shirt. During the day for casual wear I tend to wear a cardigan with my jeans. The cardigan is also a Sass & Bide label. I intend to buy another pair of Sass & Bade jeans this week. I have found this wonderful pair of straight leg jeans which look absolutely awesome. They are three hundred dollars but that is perfectly fine as I have been saving all of this week. I absolutely love Sass & Bide.

Boots, Such a Versatile Fashion Accessory

posted on 9 October 2011

Boots are my favorite fashion item because there are so many varieties, colors, and styles. Even for girls designer clothing, there are many styles of boots I can buy my daughter. As for us adults, some women’s boots go all the way up the thigh, while others are low around the ankle. Some boots are made of leather while other boots are made of patent leather or pvc. Most men’s boots are mid range boots which come part way up the calf. These boots can either be shined or oiled to maintain them if they are leather. Because of the many styles and colors available, it is best to go to a boot store when planning to buy a pair. This is because it gives a person the opportunity to see what the boot looks and feels like before purchasing, although buying online is getting more and more popular these days.

The Three Must Have Shoes

posted on 3 October 2011

Ever since I was a kid, I have been fascinated with wearing different types of shoes. Up to date, I actually own thirty pairs, not to count those that i had already stashed away. Being a shoe-a-holic, as what they call those who are obsessed with shoes, is actually fun. I believe that a beautiful pair of shoes takes you to beautiful places, and I certainly agree with it. Lace up your favourite shoes, and you feel confidence surging from your feet up. As a 23 year old girl, whose life is mainly made up of girl friends events where we are required to dress up, owning a good pair of shoes is a must. One should actually own at least three pairs of shoes and they can go on with their life without having problems on what to wear. First, every girl should have one pair of black stilletos, which can be used for certain formal occasions like gala events and parties. Another good pair to have is a pair of flat shoes. This shoe is good to wear when you have to stroll at the malls, have coffee with friends on a casual basis. The comfort and ease of wearing flats everyday makes most girls own every style of this shoe. The last but not the least, is a pair of good sneakers. Sneakers are good especially when you are a nature-loving person. I can't imagine myself wearing stilletos while walking at a farm or much more, hiking. This type of shoe is for the adventurous gal, the free-spirited and the girl explorer. When you already have these three wonderful types of shoes, I can say that you are now ready to conquer the world.

How do You Love Your Handbag to Be?

posted on 2 October 2011

Many of us consider their handbags as an essential accessory. We can not go out with out them. I am one of those. I am not the one that can stand holding many things in each of my hands. I love everything to be packed in a single bag, like one of my silver clutch bags. A handbag should be something unique and simple too but not too simple also. It just needs to be suitable with your clothes at least. Matching the color of the handbag with clothes gives the perfect look to a female. Also you can choose one handbag that can match all your clothes just like those handbags made of jeans. Actually I have one of those handbags and I love it alot because it is roomy and I can wear whatever I want with it. But first let's see how I choosed this favourite handbag. First I had to think about what do I need it for? Do I need it as a part of casual wear or for my nightlife hangouts? Will I have to put many things in it or just simple items? Do I need it for long term use or short term? I thought for a while and choosed this jeans simple handbag, first because I need it for my college and you know when we talk about college then we can not forget the number of books we carry everyday! Second, it is big and roomy so I can put anything in it and it has strong hands that allows me to carry it easily and without suffering the problem of having your handbag cut every day because of the loads inside it. Third, Jeans can stand effort alot and that was kind of miracle for me because my college needs long term work. Forth, as I said before it matchs with any clothes you wear but best with shoes made of jeans also. It is also sportive and does not need lots and lots of cleaning because jeans can withstand dirt for a long time. My jeans favourite handbag also is tall and rectangular in shape and this suits me alot because im a bit short so when you go to buy any of your handbags put the shape of your body into your consideration. If you are tall, then choose the rounded and small handbag and so on. You must also put the cost of the handbag into your consideration. A daily handbag should not be that expensive because you will use them alot and will have to buy new ones frequently so choose low cost for those handbags. As for nightlife handbags that you use only in special events, choose those ones carefully and with a good cost because nightlife handbags can tottaly change the shape of your outfit. It can add lots and lots of beauty to it. So choose it carefully in order not ruin the shape of your high cost dress for only some dollars! Finally, consider your handbag as a part of your daily outfit. It adds much to your shape, carries much and add life to you dress and shoes.

I Love My Skechers Shape Ups!

posted on 29 August 2011

Who knew that shoes could help you shape up? Recently I have been trying to get in shape, and I have chosen walking as the means to reach this end. So when I learned about the Skecher Shape Ups on youtube.com I just had to check them out. I went to my local shoe shop and picked up a pair of their extended fitness pair of shape ups in adorable black on black. At first I felt a little wobbly in them as they are supposed to make you feel like you're walk in sand. But soon I found that I could walk normally in them, and they were so comfortable! It's like walking on little cushions all day. The benefits don't stop there though. Lately people have been paying me compliments on my legs, saying things like "Your legs look more toned than usual" and "Nice calves!". Well I attribute all of these compliments to the Shape Ups. I can actually feel them working the muscles in my calves and my glutes. I look forward to continuing seeing the benefits of my awesome Shape Ups! I can't wait to get Shape Up boots and sandals next!

For Something New, Try Hopi Silver Jewelry

posted on 17 July 2011

My favorite piece of jewelry is a Hopi silver pendant given to me by my mother for my 18th birthday. At the time we were living in the Southwest and visiting the Grand Canyon. I've always been into fashion accessories, and have a huge collection of evening bags and a big jewelry box. While passing through Flagstaff we stopped at the local museum. As luck would have it, they were having their annual Hopi Festival that weekend. We purchased the pendant from an elderly gentleman who had been making silver jewelry for over 50 years. The Hopi comprise an Indian tribe that lives in northern Arizona. They are famous for their silver inlay jewelry. My particular pendant has an image of a corn stalk. Corn is sacred to the Hopi. Since then I have acquired several more piecesthe last one by buying from the jeweler himself while visiting the Hopi Mesas. I’m now thinking of getting my husband a Hopi silver bola tie. He says bola ties are the next big thing!
